Xavier Mendes, last journey 16.3.2018

Francis Xavier Mendes (Of Mendes brothers fame and sons of Late  Anthony Mendes)  died on 12th March 2018 at GMC Bambolim, Goa.  Funeral took place on 16th March at St. Jerome's Church, Mapusa.



Brass band, as a tribute,  played musical  'Gheun Nachotam' , the famous quartet by Xavier, Derrick, Felix and their sister Teresa which still plays on AIR (All India Radio, Goa)

Two priests concelebrated mass in English.  In the end Xavier's sister Teresa? and son Jude? also spoke.

TAG condoles the Death of Francis Xavier Mendes

 

Francis Xavier Mendes, popularly known as Xavier on the tiatr stage was born on 16^th May 1950, passed away on 12^th March 2018 in Goa, after a brief illness. He was 68. His first experience in acting came at a tender age of 5 in a village tiatr in Juhu(Bombay). He was the active member of the Mendes Brothers trio who delighted the audience with their comedy, songs and acting.  He was highly reputed tiatrist, decent and of high calibre.

 

Some of the big hits of the Mendes Brothers trio are ‘Maddona’, ‘Cabret’, ‘Kasaiwalla’, ‘Liquor Aunty’, ‘Khapurlem’, ‘Izdo’, ‘Amchi Mai’, etc. Xavier also known for his mimicry which was well received by the audience. He used to play the sounds of the trumpet with his mouth without the instrument, and was also good at imitating girl’s voices.

 

Much later, his sister Teresa joined them in singing “ Gheun Nachota” in Chris Perry’s tiatr “ Nouro Mozo Deuchar” which can be heard till today on the radio.

 

Xavier  performed in ‘ Fulam ani Kante’ by Prem Kumar as a crippled man and was awarded as a best supporting actor; Rico Rod’s ‘ Zogzogta Tem Bangar Nhoi’, Bab Peter’s ‘Konn Nhoi Konnacho’, Aristedes Dias, ‘Divorce’(Bombay), Robin’s Vaz’s ‘Domnic Savio’ He as also performed for late C. Alvares.

 

Xavier Mendes was the recipient of TAG’s prestigious ‘Lifetime contribution to Tiatr’ award in 2014.
